(DIRECT FROM DAT WITH NO DAE) -> Sound Studio (retrack & patch) > xACT (FLAC level 5) > Dime > You

The 2nd to arrive of the (so far) 4 circulating tapes from this show. This tape brings you closer into the screamers and crazed drunks, but is still so good that it is worth repeated listening.

Lalo captured this one with amazing results. Those Sonics are a real treat for their diaphragm size. This has the lion's share of over-enthusiastic fans chiming in at different, so much that he didn't send me the end of CTTE and the Beginning of Trooper. Bummer, eh? Lalo also "Declapped" it with his "patented Clap Reduction Technique".
Further notes from the taper: "I had severe microphone problems during the last part of Close to the Edge through the first part of Starship Trooper. I edited out the bad parts of both songs. Luckily, during the missing segment someone shot the idiot who was yelling so loudly." I sent the disc off to relayer35 and it turns out that he had pulled the MP3s Lalo had posted off Usenet back near the time of the show and patched the missing parts of the tape. So the end of CTTE & the beginning of ST won't sound as full as the rest, but it's still a great ride and a favorite of mine...

This one came from SES and seems to be from the only taper who caught the Kansas set as well.
I only just got around to checking it out when trying to decide which of the 4 tapes to put up.
It makes FOUR tapes to surface from this night, and this one is relatively mono and very clear. Probably recorded very close to one of the stacks, it is still a stereo capture, and has the best percussion and vocal sound of the 4 tapes. During the songs there is little distraction except for some clapping, and I have taken HOURS of my life lowering a lot of that. I also brought down the huge applause and screams between songs quite a bit.

All 4 tapes give you a clear impression of the show from a different spot in the venue, and all 4 are really GOOD tapes.
This one has a tape flip after Ritual, and about a minute and a half is missing including the intro to AGP. That's why I suspect this is minidisc. Included in the Extras folder is a small file in case you want this represented without the patch. Also, go back in time a little, this was the tour where they polled their fans for a setlist and there were a lot of people hoping to hear South Side of the Sky tonight, which was rumored and even on the printed setlists of the previous 2 shows. You can hear them all screaming for it near the end. One guy screamed so loud near the mic just before AGP that I felt I needed to patch that in from source 2 as well. The patched over bit is in the extras folder as well. During Roundabout you can hear a lot of nearby clapping. I lowered a lot, but there is still a lot left. This is only the 3rd show of the tour, and it is a pretty rough performance, but you can hear that all 5 guys onstage are ready for this tour, excited and glad to be playing this music again.

There are (so far) 4 circulating tapes from this show. Universal has a pretty fun security check, so there was definitely some dedication in Hollywoodland! This tape sports the warm Sennheiser MKE-II pedigree and has known lineage and most of the screamers are far away from the taper. Screamers?

Friday Night crowd. LOTS of crazed screaming Yesfans in the audience, so getting a decent capture was really tough. This one is my favorite, probably because there are the least distractions during the music. This is a solid tape from a veteran taper and a very moving performance, even if the band is still shaking the moss off the leaves. The audience is overwhelmed and overjoyed by the setlist and stay in the background for most of this tape, even though they are screaming constantly throughout most of the show. How the hell could anyone pull this tape out of this crowd? You will laugh when you hear them moved into typical *yesfan* gibberish at times throughout this recording.

OK, While doing my daily search on the Dime I saw that there may be a "Yes drought on Dime"

I'm a Yes fan and my friend "Phred" is a huge Yes fan.
I was not at this concert but "Phred" was and did the recording.
I called "Phred" told him of the "drought"
I told him I've got "Blockbuster 2000 from your master he said "up it".

"Phred" thinks it was 10th row but didn't have time to pull the stub.

A good soild recording for the "Blockbuster Pavilion" (outdoors)

And to Jon "Get well soon"

Enjoy all.

Masterworks, indeed !!

I first saw Yes in 1975, in my mid-teen's, not knowing much about Yes besides Roundabout. I saw Yes with Gentle Giant at the Auditorium Arena in Denver and it was another life-changing concert for me. By the time GFTO was released in 1977, I had every Yes album and played Yessongs to death. I bring up that 1975 show because Gates of Delirium and Ritual were played and I had not seen Yes play either of these tunes again until this show.

This concert was great because it was the setlist for the ages. Two-hour show with 8 songs. I was still reeling from Gates when they started playing Ritual (and a Leaves of Green sandwiched in between the two), it was truly amazing.

The downside was the venue and the crowd. First, the venue is an ancient roller skating rink in downtown Denver that was converted into a theatre Mammoth Gardens sometime in the 1960's. It's now the Fillmore Auditorium and the acoustics are not the best. It's basically a general admission venue with a huge open area in front of the stage (where the rink used to be). When I record a show there, I try to find the sweet spot on the floor, because the sound is pretty crappy everywhere else.

This show had the crowd whipped into a frenzy from the get-go and the crowd is very loud on the recording - especially at the beginning during CTTE. I've done my best to try to minimize the yells and screams on and around me during the show, but be warned. The Gates and Ritual on the recording are both fabulous IMHO. Sample included - enjoy.

WARNING: Loud Crowd !!

Notes: One of the best shows from Yes' Masterworks tour of 2000. The band was in
great form and played a very inspired show that slips through the cracks in Yes
history.

Unfortunately, I seem to be the only person who taped this magnificent gig. While
the second disc sounds quite good, the first disc is a bit muffled and is missing
the first minute or so of Close to The Edge. I got the best sound of this tape
by correcting the azumith on the tape and simply transferring it to cdr. In the
past, I have tried lots of EQ and tampering but that just resulted in the show
sounding processed. So here it is clean, raw, and natural ten years later. I
recommend downloading for the performance alone, it is excellent. That said,
the balance of instruments is perfect and there is little audience interference.
The only drawback is that disc one lacks the clarity and highs of disc two. Reason
being that the recorder was hidden under a shirt for the first half due to the
muscular security staff making me (15 at the time) paranoid.

And as a final note, if anyone has another source for this show, please step
forward and upload it. We would all love to hear it.

In the meantime, enjoy this stellar show on it's tenth (almost) anniversary.

SQ - 9-9.5/10 ex- to ex aud, IMHO as always
CD one - 3 tracks, 57:25
CD two - 5 tracks, 57:41
TT: 115:06

This is 99% complete. The wav file shapes of each song (left & right channels) were IDENTICAL, hence the identification of the recording as monaural, which also explains the low 327 MB size of the show.

I have three versions of this concert: my own (version 1), my friend's (version 2) and this one (version 3). This one sounds better by far than the other two because I'm sure that it was taped in the seated area close to the stage. There's very little talking in this one whereas the other 2 have a lot of drunken scumbag babbling in them (no fault of the tapers). My version is stereo and is absolutely complete. Version 2 is slightly incomplete but sounds virtually identical to mine as we were standing side-by-side when we were recording. This one (version 3) is missing only the intro music and is mono but it sounds GREAT !!! Don't let the mono scare you away ; remember, even with 2 mics, the stereo separation of any of these stealth recordings is so slight that they may as well be
considered mono for all practical purposes. IF there is sufficient interest, kindly old Uncle Jojo will unleash all three versions on an innocent and unsuspecting Dime public. What a prince of a guy !!! Let me know if y'all want the other 2 and give me some time...

I attended the concert and taped my show so I'll give you as accurate a description as I can. It was a hot, beautiful day in downtown Chicago, IL but it was a free show so it was MAYHEM. By the time I parked the car in a garage and crossed that big street into Grant Park, the place was packed. There was an area that one could buy tickets for and sit through the shows but the tickets were long sold out. Every drunken downtown Chicago scumbag/deadbeat was there and I could see that this was going to be a hellish show as far as "audience participation" was concerned. I made my way through the crowd and saw an empty area but the view of the stage was blocked by a giant "backstop" for lack of a better term. I figured that I didn't need to see the bands to tape them so WTF. When I first got there, there was almost nobody in this area. As soon as the music started, however, the drunken idiots started to filter in and soon it was recess at the looney bin. Everybody was blabbing as if no bands were there. I could see a little through the backstop and caught glimpses of Yes but the sound quality of MY show was wonderful except for the loaded assholes.

The SQ of this one is really good ; vocals and instruments are all clearly heard. I believe that this recording is uncirculated. There was one other taper there who ended up standing right next to me !! We both got Yes (he had a minidisc recorder IIRC) but his version is slightly incomplete for unknown reasons. I could barely see the stage so I have no great visual news to impart. Jon was in excellent voice but sounded very stoned ; you'll hear examples on the recording. I cannot believe that this show happened 10 years ago ! My, how time flies when you're getting old...that's about all that I have for this show so let's get the ball rolling...

Finally, please don't buy, sell or convert this show to mp3 or any other lossy format. Please seed this as long as you can. Please trade this freely as it is almost certainly uncirculated. This show will be a welcome addition to any Yes fan's collection. I will post a sample to help some of you decide whether or not to download it but it's really unnecessary. So, as Mr. Natural is so fond of saying, have fun, don't freak out and enjoy the concert !

This is a fearless-pigeon tape.
Certainly one of the best captures of the tour, an exceptional recording from 5th row dead center, completely immerses you in the Jones Beach experience. (Those who've been to the venue will understand.) The definition of the instruments owes more to the stage equipment than to the PA, but Jon's comments are easy to hear. Set the volume of Leaves of Green as if the performers were right in front of you and you'll get the idea of how loud this should be played.

It is Saturday Night after a Friday off without real travel inbetween. It rained all day but the weather broke just in time for Kansas to start their set by without rain. By the time Yes went on the moon was up and the sky was clear.
The band always seem to enjoy themselves in this venue, and this is another one of those nights. Hear for yourself.

Another of the top performances and an exceptional recording. One of the best of the tour. It is pretty safe to say that there is NOTHING wrong with this Aud tape, and this is the reason we all like Aud tapes to begin with. A spectacular capture from one of the best of the Rochester Tapers. All that's been changed here was to slightly retrack this and do a little volume adjust from the big crescendo in Ritual to the end. The taper gently lowered the volume during the loudest part of Ritual, and there is a little clipping there but it isn't a problem.

PLAY THIS LOUD AND ON A VERY GOOD STEREO.

This was the end of a weekend playing 2 of New York's finest venues which followed 2 days in New Jersey playing 2 very 'New Jersey' venues. Surely Weds & Thurs in New Jersey, a weekend off, followed by Sat & Sun in New York contributed to the spirits of the band and the performances here. SPAC is a gorgeous amphitheater and the weather was perfect... for mosquitoes. One of the highlights of the show was no fewer than a half-dozen dragonflies diving and dipping around the crowd and eating the bugs that were eating the crowd.

original radio show CD-Rs (preFM, I was told) > ripped with EAC > FLAC (level 8) created with db PowerAmp > checksum files (ffp) created with Trader's Little Helper > you

audio files were tested with Trader's Little Helper – no errors occurred

Tracks:

1.01 Starship Trooper (14.59)
1.02 Leaves Of Green - Heart Of The Sunrise (20.42)
1.03 I've Seen All Good People (9.43)
1.04 Roundabout (10.49)

note on the files:

I basically ripped the songs as is, i.e. incl. announcements, etc. On this CD, Leaves of Green and Heart of the Sunrise are 1 track, so I left it as that, because after Leaves of Green Jon talks and segues into Heart of the Sunrise. Obviously, you can split the tracks any which way you like and delete announcements, etc. I just wanted to give you the whole thing. Hope that's ok with you.

A little note on Close to the Edge (not in this torrent, because it was officially released): some say the version on this radio show is superior to the officially released one – BUT it contains a DJ intro, which is a little annoying. So there...

Please, buy the CDs, DVDs and go to the concerts of this and all other artists. Whether well- known or unknow – any artist deserves a paying audience to make a living.

The other songs – Ritual, Close To The Edge, Gates of Delirium – were officially released as bonus tracks on limited edition 2 CD set of "Magnification"

COMMENTS:
At the beginning of the year 2000, Yes took a poll on their website asking their loyal fans what songs they would like to hear in concert. The response was overwhelming, with many of the Yes epic masterpiece songs like "Close To The Edge" and "Gates Of Delirium," both clocking in at over 20 minutes, among the most requested Yes songs, as well as staples like "Starship Trooper," "Roundabout," and "Heart Of The Sunrise." Answering the call, Yes rose to the occasion with the Masterworks tour, recorded live at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey on July 19, 2000. This is an FM broadcast from SFX Brodcasting.

This came from the extensive trade library of Bill Brown, who likely got it from the taper. Tough to get a capture this good at the Meadows, but this one manages while still revealing what "Saturday night in Hartford" crowd this was. This is the more complete of 2 different tapes that circulate from this show.

On this tour the band began to gel right about the end of the first week in July. 2 Dates were cancelled right about then when Jon came down with a frog in his throat, and when they picked back up that's when the performances really began to shine. There were some missed cues and a few 'almost' trainwrecks, but they really had gotten the material under control and begun to have fun with it for the first time in over 2 decades.

This particular Saturday in Hartford was the middle of a long weekend working 3 big east coast cites and the band that hits the stage is all business. This is the tightest performance so far on the tour, and a breathtaking performance by all. Very different vibe from the New York tapes and probably more what the fans seem after: tight tight tight!

One of the top performances and a good recording made very close to the stage so most of the sound comes from the individual musician's amps. Great definition there, but the acoustic parts and vocals suffer a bit. Plus it is difficult to hear Jon's between-song banter. There are some unfortunate mic connection problems throughout which mostly affect the first few tracks. Don't let any of that stop you from enjoying from this fantastic performance and stunning capture from the lip of the stage.

The final performance of the Masterworks tour. This date was rescheduled from July 12 when Jon came down with a sore throat. So while the tour was supposed to end 3 days earlier in Florida, 2 final dates were added without Kansas. The opening act for these last 2 shows was Jenny DeVoe.

This is a hot tape, with very little distractions. Great work by the taper, because Riverbend was a ZOO that night! During the 4 vocal harmony part of Starship Trooper I walked away from my seat and was amazed to see the place packed. Good job Riverbend management!

Looks like another minidisc recording made with some nice sensitive mics. Disc change after Leaves cuts off the beginning of HotS, and quick fades after the last 2 songs plus the SFA all say minidisc, but it took a while to hunt this one down, so likely the only tape of this show. There were some clap spikes to bring down and a few spots to edit out because of the high-sensitivity of the mics, and one volume adjustment in CTTE.

Solid performances, but probably tied with Jones Beach for favorite Ritual of the tour.
Was pretty sure this would be the last time I'd ever get to experience Ritual live so I made sure to be there. Drove 12 hours just to do it and slept in the car before the ride home... ahh, those were the days!
