Maybe your old enough to remember 1980
a pop duo which just had a number one joined a rock band.
Doesn't sound a big deal, but at the time all the music papers were fuelling
the fires by printing letter after letter from yes fans,i can still remember
one which claimed Trevor Horn had no right to sing Starship Trooper.
In an interview Trevor Horn mentioned, after the next tour,we won't be doing any of the old songs.
This was a new Yes for the 80's.It didn't quite make it into 1981.

Grammy award-winning rock giants, YES, announce a double-album 2016 Spring UK/European tour.
The band will perform two of its iconic albums, Fragile and Drama, in their entirety.
Legendary progressive rock band, YES, will start their 2016 UK-European Tour kicking off 27 April 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland
and wrapping up 2 June 2016 in Bari, Italy. On this tour, fans can look forward to a unique YES experience; the band will perform
two of its iconic albums in their entirety, Fragile and, for the first time ever, Drama.

YES will delight audiences with tracks from two of its most influential albums.
Fans will hear long-time favorites, including Roundabout, Long Distance Runaround, Heart of the Sunrise, Machine Messiah,
Into the Lens, Tempus Fugit, and more. In addition, YES will perform all the tracks in the order they appear on each corresponding studio album.

“This is a first for us,” said YES guitarist, Steve Howe. “This is the first time we’ll be performing Drama in its entirety.
In fact, most of the Drama songs haven’t been performed in some 30 years.” YES drummer, Alan White, adds, “Drama’s a great album,
and we decided it’s long past due to bring its life and energy back to the forefront. We think the fans will love hearing Fragile and Drama in their entirety,
and we certainly look forward to performing them.”

This is the corrected version with all files now attached.

This is a remastered version of the recording available here:
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=560896

The recording seemed very good, but the vocals were muffled and the bass very boomy. I contacted the taper/uploader and gained their permission to tweak the recording and make it available here. This is the first time I’ve done anything like this, but I like it and I hope you enjoy it too.

Yes or not Yes, what the heck...
No original members left but everyone involved in at least one studio record.

Jon Davison: Self confident, entertaining and hitting every note. Sometimes brittle, often great

Billy Sherwood: Concentrated on emulating Chris Squire's bass and (often underestimated) vocal parts. Pretty good though he left off some important parts in "Does it really happen" and his voice is not as sharp as Chris' which used to jump out of the choir sometimes ("tail fly"). Great on bass, he managed to receive some extra applause.

Geoff Downes: Ok, the "Siberian Kathru" solo is not his cup of tea but remember what Moraz did to Wakeman's parts and vice versa (small "Gates"-excerpt on the "big medley" from the Tormato tour)?

Rumour goes Chris Squire was responsible for slowing down the songs because he didn't like the high-speed approach of the Trevor Rabin lineup. Well, this phase is over now, Steve Howe and Alan White were cut loose and Yes were rocking.

The sound is a bit boomy but rather listenable. Almost no talkers.
The guy next to me recorded too, so maybe there'll be more.

LDB Master Series #408

Welcome to my Master Series which started way back in November 2005. This series is only about masters, concerts I recorded myself either from audience or from radio/TV broadcasts. Occasionally I could also share masters that have been kindly given to me by many friends and fellow tapers I have been meeting during my long career of live taping.

Please DO NOT share this music on mp3. if you want to listen to these shows on your own iPod, feel free to convert the files in lossy format for your own use and enjoyment. Do not put lossy sources in blogs or sites for downloading, always use the lossless FLACs which will ensure that the quality I have put in these recording is preserved. Sharing mp3 is the right way to make me stop sharing music here.

Also, please do not SELL these concerts. These have been recorded and shared by me with the only purpose to give it absolutely free of charge and no profit should be made by those who took these files for free. I am quite picky and do regular checks on websites to see if any of this series are being sold. I have been quite successfull in having them removed from sale and even to shut down the site (don´t ask me how :-)

2 tapers on one tape you say? Well I was a little late (thanks, Josh!). Didn't get in the park til near the end of the first song. Binko had the mics, so he dropped his chair in my spot and did the first set while I watched it on the jumbotron on the hill. Then came the set break and I took the mics and took over.

OK I love Yes. And the things this version of Yes has been doing as far as performing whole albums has made me appreciate albums I'd've normally overlooked, but this evening I reached prog overload. Somewhere in the second set I realized that all Yes sounds the same and that Steve Howe plays that same scale in every guitar solo, then looks at the audience like "Did you see that? That was pretty good, right? Wanna see me do it again?". My brain shut off once it's capacity for random complex progressions was reached.

All in all it was an impressivee show with a mostly clueless audience. People complained that they didn't play the big 10 songs, and to them I say "You shouldn't have come to a concert you were underinformed about. I knew what they were going to play and what to expect, and I'm perfectly satisfied I got what I came for". As the 2nd set went on people slowly drifted out looking mildly confused, leaving those of us who got it to enjoy ourselves.

The entire intro to And You and I is ruined a bunch of girls in front of me chatting like they were in a bar. Ok let me expain a bit: I sit right on the concrete pad behind the corrall they have around the soundboard. There's no one in front of me because the soundboard is there. Well this time the corrall was bigger, and a bunch of girls were in there. They sat in a circle and blabbed, oblivious to the show starting in fron of (and behind) them. I told them the picnic area was over there, but they just kep' on keeping on. I moved over 10 feet. Eventually they joineD the exodus of the ignorant and the show went o without them.

Security came over and tried to bust me taping again, but this time I had the recorder hidden well enough they didn't see it and the tape is unbroken other than their intrusion.

By the way, don't you think it's about time they changed the band name to Yessongs? It's not Yes, but it's their songs. Not one original member is in this band. Sure Steve Howe was there for all the important stuff, but he's not an original member. Geoff Downes was in the band before, but he's not an original member. Squire is dead. Anderson is gone. And Alan White is also not an original member. At this show he wasn't even there, and his replacement kept making mistakes. This is a cover band and it's time they acknowledged it.

This recording is spatialized mono. The electrical interference that plagued several other recordings this year ruined the left channel completely. I replaced it with the right, then simulated stereo with Nugen's Stereoizer 3. I'm beginning to think it's a problem with the deck itself because it only happens with Binko's recorder. The problem is it's an intermittent noise and there's no way to confirm if it's a deck issue or not other than to record a show with more than one recorder at the same time. Binko will buy another one if we can prove it's the deck.

Hello Everyone:

Alright, let's dispense with the obvious so we don't have to beat this to death. This is not the “classic” Yes lineup, that hasn't happened for decades. Alan White is recovering from back surgery and is not performing with the band for the time being. Fini!

So, having said that, this has got to be one of the best performances I've see by this band in a while, including with Chris on recent tours. There's something to be said for injecting new blood into an old band. I was very skeptical after hearing Alan wasn't going to perform. And to be honest, after listening to the Columbus show, I really had my doubts that this was going to work. I was picking up missed cues in several spots. But after only a couple nights since OH, these guys pulled off a spectacular performance. I used to play drums to the Drama album all the time. I have a keen senses for the patterns in the songs. Jay Schellen was spot on from start to finish. Billy has certainly come into his own as well in one short year since Chris' passing. I'm amazed at how good he sounds here. He also would cue Jay and lead the band during some of the more intricate changes. His vocal range is fantastic as well. I don't have a good explanation for this but Geoff always seems uncomfortable to me. However, he was more animated than usual, very aggressive with the keys and added some wonderful vocal harmonies. And of course I can't forget the maestro himself. Steve is the consummate artist. Some might argue Yes today isn't 'progressive' enough, not like the old days. I couldn't help but notice throughout the evening how much Steve is still the master of his craft. He was playing some crazy cord changes in the oddest of places. His technique is subtle, delicate and precise. His jam at the end of Siberian is memorizing.

Overall a tight performance with some of the greatest Yes material from their catalog.

Oh, the other albums I would play to all the time were Tormato and GFTO. We got two out of three so far, next year perhaps.

Enjoy!

Comments: This was my 50th Yes concert I've attended. This isn't the lineup I envisioned I would celebrate this milestone with, that's for sure. The classic lineup will never be again, but the band documented here put on a really great show. The show included four songs I had never seen Yes perform live before, and two more that I hadn't seen in 12 and 14 years.

This was also a memorable show becayse this is the first time in nearly 11 years of recording thatI used a different set of microphones. The Church Audio CA11's definitely have a different color than the SP-CMC-2's that I used to record over 100 shows. Maybe it's actually less color, but the mids aren't as harsh. I'm not sure they handled the low frequencies any better than the SP-CMC-2's, but some of that may be the battery box. There were logistical reasons why I didn't use the UBB box I bought with the microphones, but plan to use it next time. I think the recording sounds pretty nice. The acoustics are always great at the Oakdale...I just wish I can the say the same about the fans. There's a lot of background chatter. Fortunately, these microphones are more directional my old ones, and the chatter is not nearly as annoying as it was in person. If you're just going to sit a chat with your buddy all night, then go to a bar or something. I want to hear the band!

Comments: Here's another recording from the new look Yes (Steve Howe & Friends). This lineup rocks. This tour might have some of the tightest playing since the glory days of 2004! Billy Sherwood continues to impress. Needless to say, I thought the band sounded great!

This recording came out very nice as well. The crowd was far less obnoxious than last week at Wallingford. I'm still not sure whether I like these new mics more than my old ones. One thing for sure, I have to jack the recording levels on the M10 when I use them. I think these mics have much less mid range definition than my old ones, which had perhaps too much. I guess I will get used to it with time. I also made a 2nd recording (Blue Mikey/iPhone) as a backup, but fortunately this one came out great and I don't have to use that one.

This is my alternate recording. The Blue Mikey does a decent job. The recording is similar to many of the recordings made these days with internal microphones. The major issue is the lack of seperation. Internal mic's (or the Blue Mikey) will never sound as good as dedicated microphones.

Comments: I can't say enough about The Egg. I just love this venue. The acoustics are absolutely fantastic. This was a great show. This tour is the best they've sounded since 2004. This show was no exception. I was fortunate to be sitting in a sweet spot, and there is no chatter, or the usual "Billy, you the man!" screams that are normally heard at Yes concerts. I think much of this stems from the fact that while there is a bar in the lobby, you are not allowed to bring drinks inside the venue. Less drunks means less inane crowd noise!

As for the recordings, I made two seperate recordings using both sets of microphones I own. They both came out spectacular. These are perhaps, the best sounding recordings I've made in the 11+ years of recording shows. This version was done with my trusty Sound Professional set up, which I find sometimes causes a little bit of low-end distortion that I am usually able to mix out of my recordings. That did not happen here. This one sounds fantastic. I have had really great luck with this setup recording at The Egg. I am having a tough time deciding which of the two recordings I like better. You can't really go wrong with either one. If I had to pick one, I would probably pick this one.

These are perhaps, the best sounding recordings I've made in the 11+ years of recording shows. This recording was something I always wanted to try. Hooked up the mics and battery box to the line in on the Blue Mikey and recorded direct to my iPhone. There was no way to control the recording level, so I had no idea how this would come out. It turned out fantastic. Only issue I could find with this setup is that sometimes when the sound was quiet, the recording becomes mono for a few seconds before it gets louder again. It has to be real quiet for this to happen, and only happened a few times for a split second each. Other than that, I'm having a tough time deciding which recording is better. I couldn't be happier with how these came out.

Tech notes:

I haven't diagnosed it yet but I had what was likely a cable issue resulting in dozens of left-channel dropouts during Drama, Roundabout, and Starship Trooper. The good news is that everything else is clean, except for one short dropout during the beginning of And You And I. I considered doing mono versions of the affected tracks but that sounded worse to me, so I patched the dropouts with the right channel. You might find the stereo-to-mono shifts annoying on headphones, but it doesn't sound bad on my home and car systems. And believe me, you'll never be as annoyed as I am with a flawed recording, especially after the extra stress of being wanded at the door.

Other thoughts:

Roseanne Barr's twin sat next to me for the first few songs. I knew she was trouble the moment she entered the row. She was surprisingly quiet at first, though she was making weird gestures with her hands and covered her face with her hat occasionally. It soon became apparent that she wasn't enjoying herself. She started yelling "This is horrible!" and "This sucks!" between songs. My favorite is right before Tempus Fugit when she says "What the hell?" And she really does sound like Roseanne. Apparently she wasn't expecting Drama. (It was actually my first time hearing the album other than a couple of songs they've done on recent tours, so it's no favorite of mine either.) She may have had Tourette's or something worse. Either way, we silently applauded her exit during the beginning of Tempus Fugit.

As far as the current lineup goes, I'm as closed-minded as they come with the possible exception of "Roseanne". I pretty much closed the book on Yes the moment I heard the Buggles were joining. I've been sneaking occasional peeks over the years and decided that having the opportunity to see Steve Howe play two sides of Tales is worth the price of admission alone.

Comments:
Washington loves its Yes concerts. At the end of "Leaves of Green" listen for a group in the audience who, at the final note, shout out "Steve Howe!" This recording turned out well even with a clapper/whistler sitting directly to my left. What this recording doesn't pick up, due to bass roll-off, is the booming kick drum from Jay Schellen and the thunderous bass guitar and pedals from Billy Sherwood. The floor and seats were quaking. Recorded halfway through their summer tour, the band is in fine form, sometimes cueing each other and crossing the stage to stand next to each other. What a treat, after all these years, to hear the Topographic songs again.

Note: Seventeen times I've seen Yes and, by my count, I've only seen the same lineup on consecutive tours twice since 1988! And, so it was with this one, with Jay Schellen replacing Alan White on the drums - but, this seems (to my eyes and ears) to make a huge difference in the energy and enthusiasm of the band. Not to blame Alan, but, the tempos are undoubtedly faster this year, the show is longer and the setlist is much more interesting - and totally awesome for a Yes geek such as myself. Drama AND Tales? Yes, please.

Plus, we indulged in the meet & greet package, so, we had great third row center seats - pretty much in the lap of the band. I'll tell you - the merch package was pretty impressive: band autographed poster, program, TFTO album cover t-shirt, 3-D ticket, tote bag, plus two photos and two autographed items of your choice (I had them sign the program and a vinyl remaster of Drama that I bought at the booth). My wife was pretty down on seeing what she has previously dubbed as "Maybe"; after the concert and M&G, her enthusiasm for the experience was overriding any previous skepticism. After such a lackluster performance last year, I was delighted that my band was able to deliver a solid evening of entertainment.

As always, this recording would not have been possible if not for the unending patience and support of my wonderful wife. For this show, I was able to use the restroom at the interval (between Siberian Khatru and AYAI), so, I pretty much sat still the entire show - and I'm happy to say that, despite my close proximity, the recording came out very well!

Finally: please don't sell the recording, but, otherwise, do with it what you wish. Share it and trade it, and remember: these and other greats will not be around forever, so, let's enjoy them while we have them. Best wishes to all of the fans out there and Namaste.

Here it is. My first "successful" stealthy recording. It's my second recording, but my first successful recording. I learned the night before this one that gaffers tape holding the mic plug to preamp is really good idea.

This is my raw master recording. I made no attempt to remster it. The low end was too hot so I rolled off the EQ hard at about 80Hz. I did apply some hard limiter to the excessive peaks, and then I normalized. That's it. There's a bit of high SPL distortion (my mics are on their way to getting a mod to fix that now), but otherwise I think it's a good recording.

The band was all smiles and looked like they were having great fun. Jay Schellen did a very respectable job covering for the healing Alan White.

This was a great performance by Yes. It seemed too short, but doesn't it always seem that way?

I have to fess up here. I was late to the show so I missed the first minute or so of Machine Messiah. So embarrasing!

Alan White played the first song in the set, Machine Messiah, and then Jay Schellen took over all the way through the midpoint of Ritual, at which point Alan White got back behind the drum kit. You'll probably notice they were stretching out that tribal noise section in the song and then some applause as Alan takes his place and blasts into the drum solo.

I thought Billy Sherwood's bass playing was on fire and that Geoff Downes did one of the best keyboard solos I've seen him do. Steve Howe was his usual Steve-ish self hopping around like he has tacks in his shoes.

The last song of the set was Heat of the Moment in tribute to John Wetton.

Enjoy as you wish and please support these great artists,
BarnyzFrank

This was the first "land" show for Yes after their successful 2017 Cruise To The Edge. They sheduled 8 tour stops in Southern U.S. venues, leading up to the big April 7, 2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The band was very energetic and played to a very receptive audience. Artist Roger Dean was among those enjoying the show from a seat in the beautiful Mahaffey Theater.

Everything recorded by GeoffreyM on a TASCAM DR-05 to SD card using 24-bit WAV at 44.1kHz. The recorder cut the show into two WAV file segments at 19:48 into track 2.03 "Ritual." We were in the first row/center of the "Loge" section, with no obstructions.

There is a blast of sound at the beginning of 1.03 "White Car" that startled everyone in the theater. They had something set very high.

"St. Pete Strange Device" bootleg title is from a lyric from track 2.01 "The Revealing Science of God," and also because, at 10:47 into the song, an usher came and questioned me about whether my recording unit was a "hearing device."

All mastering of the raw WAV files was done by Remy with Adobe Audition CC2015. Remy raised all frequency levels a bit, the frequency levels of the bass, drums and vocals were raised significantly more. The volume has been lowered with -2 dB. Remy saved it as a FLAC file and cut it into separate tracks.

Graphics for the front and back cover for this St. Pete Strange Device bootleg are by surrealist artist Roland Tamayo. All photographs are from the February 11, 2017 show at The Mahaffey Theater in Saint Petersburg, Florida.

The band was very energetic and played to a very receptive audience. Artist Roger Dean was among those enjoying the show from a seat in the beautiful Mahaffey Theater.

Everything recorded by GeoffreyM on a TASCAM DR-44WL to SD card using 16-bit WAV at 96kHz. This was my first time ever using this recorder, and unfortunately I had the input level set way too high. This resulted in substantially heavy distortion. The TASCAM DR-05 bootleg of the same show sounds significantly better. The recorder cut the show into two WAV file segments." We were in the first row/center of the "Loge" section, with no obstructions.

There is a blast of sound at the beginning of 1.03 "White Car" that startled everyone in the theater. They had something set very high.

This was the fourth of 8 tour stops in Southern U.S. venues Yes scheduled following their successful 2017 Cruise To The Edge, leading up to the big April 7, 2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The band was very energetic and played to a very receptive but rather raucous audience. The band seemed to be having a fantastic time. Jon Davison looked like he had just come from a yoga session, while Steve Howe looked like he was ready to hit a jazz club, with his immaculate suit and his neatly trimmed beard. Alan White started out on drums through the first songs of Drama, then Jay Schellen took over the kit through the first portion of "Ritual." Alan White came back in during an extended drum section of "Ritual" and played through the remaining 3 encore songs.

Everything recorded by GeoffreyM on a TASCAM DR-05 to SD card using 24-bit WAV at 96kHz. I recorded the show two WAV file segments. I was in first row/left of the "Loge" section, with no obstructions.

As described above, the audience was very boisterous. The TASCAM DR-05 picks up quite a lot of ambient audience sound, so you hear the audience singing, yelling, whistling, talking, and clapping on this recording. The TASCAM DR-44WL bootleg recording of this show does not pick up much of the ambient audience sound.

Everything recorded by GeoffreyM on a TASCAM DR-44WL to SD card using 24-bit WAV at 96kHz. I recorded the show two WAV file segments. I was in first row/left of the "Loge" section, with no obstructions.

As described above, the audience was very boisterous. The TASCAM DR-44WL does not pick up much of the ambient audience sound, but you'll still hear people yelling during quiet portions of songs, such as Steve Howe's intro guitar to "Leaves of Green."

All mastering of the raw WAV files was done by Remy with Adobe Audition CC2015. Remy raised all frequency levels a bit, the frequency levels of the bass, drums and vocals were raised significantly more. The volume has been lowered with -3 dB. Remy saved it as a FLAC file and cut it into separate tracks.

I may be in the minority but Drama has always been my favorite Yes album. There are better songs on other albums but for
me Drama is the one album I can always play all the way through. So I was happy about getting to see this show and I think
Billy Sherwood did a great job filling in for Chris Squire. The crowd around me was mostly quite and into the music so I
the recording came out very nice. You will notice the cut between the sets if you play this straight through.

Enjoy!

disclosure notes from smores: during The Revealing Science Of God (Dance Of The Dawn) the taper had a couple moments of severe static through the mic. Not sure what happened there, but it was a series of abrupt high volume spikes. I cut the section of about 2 seconds out of the track instead of dealing with the spikes individually.

Comments: This was a once in a lifetime event, seeing my favorite band get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. There's much debate about the relevance of the HOF, but I didn't care. It was an opportunity for me to see a classic Yes lineup one last time even though it was bittersweet that Chris Squire was missing. I started recording shows myself about 12 years ago, and while I've recorded Yes 20 times (as well as ARW twice, now known as 'Yes Featuring ARW') over that time period, this was the first (and likely only time) that I got to actually record the classic lineup. I've been waiting all my life for this moment!!!

Unfortunately, due to the nature of this event, I wasn't able to score a ticket in a sweet recording spot. I was barely able to get a ticket at all actually, and when I did get one, it was in the upper section and certainly a less than ideal vantage point to get a decent recording. As such, this is probably my worst sounding recording since 2012. It just wasn't loud enough in the upper section. I don't do many arena shows, this was probably the largest venue I've recorded a show, and I was very far from the stage and any speakers. I worked on this show quite a bit using Wavelab, and cleaned it up quite a bit. It really doesn't sound terrible, just not up to my usual quality. Geddy and Alex's induction speech, as well as acceptance speeches from Jon, Trevor, Alan, Steve, and Rick were hard to hear, but are included here anyway. Bill Bruford was on-stage, as well as Chris' wife Scotland, but they didn't get to speak. Tony Kaye wasn't mentioned at all, yet Steve made a point of mentioning how Yes continues to perform with Geoff Downes, Billy Sherwood and Jon Davison (who were all in attendance, but did not appear on stage). I believe Patrick Moraz was there as well.

I actually recorded the entire five hour show, and some of the speeches and videos are quite hard to hear, and there was two obnoxious Pearl Jam fans directly to my right. I made them aware I was there for Yes and they were pretty quiet for their section of the show. For the second show in a row, I had a cable disconnect, but that was at the end of the show during Pearl Jam. Unfortunately I did not get the ending Jam where Pearl Jam were joined by Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain and Trevor Rabin for a rendition of "Rockin' The Free World". There are plenty of videos of it on Youtube and a editted version of the whole night will air on HBO later this month. I've got to say this was a unique event, as the styles of some of the performs greatly contrasted each other. I also never imagined I would go to a show that had Yes on the same bill as Snoop Dogg, but there I was! In fact, Snoop took the stage immediately after the Yes performance to induct Tupac Shakur. It was a very long and memorable evening, and a once in a lifetime opportunity, but not anything I would probably ever do again!

Artwork is included in the torrent, with photos from the actual show (although I did not take the front cover picture, I stole it from the Internet).

PLEASE DO NOT USE AS A SOURCE FOR A MATRIX.
Please share this recording in unaltered lossless quality. If you need to remaster, or something, let me know, and I can provide the undedited raw master (without EQ/volume tweaks) for you to use.
